Yesterday marked Day One.
We didn’t waste a minute getting to work. At Hattie’s Culinary Lab, powered by The SEAT Center, we met with members of the Transition Team and Activate Albany Committee to begin shaping what comes next for our city.
The space itself carries history, it was once home to Lombardo’s, an Albany staple. Starting here was symbolic, a reflection of our effort to turn the lights back on across our city, to honor Albany’s past while continuing to add to its rich story.
We chose to start here intentionally. This youth-centered program is just a glimpse of a much larger effort to invest in people, opportunity, and community across Albany. Public safety isn’t only about response, it’s about prevention, belonging, and stability. It’s about creating opportunity security, ensuring every resident has access to education, workforce pathways, and the chance to thrive.
Many don’t see these kinds of investments as public safety, but they are. Public health is my expertise, and public service is my calling. I know that safety and health are inseparable, and building a safer city means investing in the public as a whole, across every spectrum of need. When we do that, we help our young people see Albany as a city worthy of their love, their work, and their future.
The students who led the morning with skill, professionalism, and pride reminded us what happens when we invest in our young people, they rise. And when they rise, our city does too.
Programs like this build workforce bridges, open creative pathways, and strengthen the very foundation of public safety by empowering residents to see their city as a place worth investing in.
Our work ahead will be bold and inclusive. Through the Activate Albany initiative, we’re launching the city’s largest civic engagement effort, bringing together community leaders, educators, business owners, and residents to chart a new path forward.
We’re also building a talented team that reflects the strength and diversity of Albany itself. If you’re ready to serve, innovate, and help shape the future of our capital city, we want to hear from you.
Submit your résumé today. Let’s build Albany, together.
